Enrolments

We are also looking forward to our Foundation Transition Program, which is an important part of preparing children (and families) for the start of school. Transition sessions will be held on:

• Tuesday 25th November
• Tuesday 2nd December
• Tuesday 9th December

Each session will run from 9.15am – 10.30am. During this time, students will spend time in the classrooms with our Foundation teachers (without parents present), while parents are invited to attend information sessions with the school leadership team. More details about the content of both the student and parent sessions will be provided closer to the time.

It is important to note that at Merri Creek Primary School, we do not accept enrolments beyond the next school year.

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined based on your permanent residential address.

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.

For families that reside outside the school zone, your child’s Application form should still be submitted and will be considered if there are spaces available.

We have now completed our official Foundation 2026 Information Session. It was a pleasure to welcome visitors to our school and share an insight into the programs, values, and learning environment we offer at Merri Creek Primary School.

A reminder that the Department of Education has set Thursday 25th July 2025 as the closing date for Foundation enrolment applications. We encourage you to submit your application by this date to ensure consideration during the placement process.

Application and Enrolment Forms

The department supports Victorian government schools to maintain a fair and transparent enrolment process by providing a standardised application form and enrolment form that are completed in 2 stages:

• Stage 1: Application form – captures enrolment expressions of interest from parents/carers.

• Stage 2: Enrolment form – captures detailed student information once there is a confirmed placement offer from the school.

Once there has been a confirmed place, you will then be required to complete the Enrolment form 2025 and provide the following documentation:

• Evidence of your child's date of birth (birth certificate, or, if they were not born in Australia, a passport or travel document such as a visa) may be required. * Please note: To start primary school your child will need to turn five years old by the 30 April in the year they start school.
• Your child's Immunisation Status (Certificate from MyGov-Medicare)
• Evidence of residence - As part of your application, schools may ask for additional information to confirm your address.

  Your child’s address is where they permanently reside at the time of seeking enrolment. If your child lives at multiple addresses, their permanent residence is the address at which they spend most of their weekdays.

  To support a school’s request, you may be asked to complete a 100-point residential address check. Documents should show the same parent/carer name and address as recorded on the application form.

  If you are unsure of what you need to provide, ask your school or refer to the residential address check for guidance.

  Applications may not be successful if information is not provided or found not to be genuine.

  If you are unable to provide proof of permanent address because of your individual circumstances, you can seek advice from your local school or a Community Liaison Officer in the regional office.

2026 Foundation (Prep) enrolments

The Department of Education and Training (DET) has released a statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline.

The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Merri Creek Primary School.

The timeline will apply for children starting Foundation (Prep) in 2026. All government primary schools will follow the timeline in 2025 to support Foundation (Prep) enrolments for the 2026 school year.

You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) 2026 at Merri Creek Primary School from April 22, 2025.

ENROLMENT FORMS FOR FOUNDATION 2026 MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FRIDAY 25^TH JULY 2025

Enrolment documentation can be returned in person or emailed to merri.creek.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Enrolment forms must be accompanied by the following documentation:

• Evidence of your child's date of birth (birth certificate, or, if they were not born in Australia, a passport or travel document such as a visa).
• * Please note: To start primary school your child will need to turn five years old by the 30^th April in the year they start school.
• Your child's Immunisation Status (Certificate from MyGov-Medicare)
• Evidence of residence - a council rates notice or rental agreement, along with, one copy of a utility bill, drivers’ licence or health care card.
• (If you are unable to provide evidence of residence, you may submit a Statutory declaration confirming you are living in the address provided in the enrolment application and that the arrangement is genuine and intended to be permanent).

Documents must show the same address and name (parent’s or carer’s) as recorded on the enrolment application form.

What you need to do:

1. Download the Foundation (Prep) enrolment information pack from Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) (available from April 22, 2025)
2. Submit an enrolment application form for Foundation (Prep) by Friday 25 July 2025
3. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 28 July and Friday 8 August 2025. If you receive an offer of placement, you should contact our school to accept the offer by Friday 22 August 2025 and return a completed 2026 Enrolment form and copies of birth certificate, immunisation certificate and evidence of residence (see above)
4. Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 4, 2025
5. Your child will start Foundation (Prep) from Wednesday 28 January 2026.

Enrolment applications submitted after 25 July 2025 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Placement Policy.
