The Middle Years Reform Program is a major initiative of the Department of Education, Employment and Training. It is designed to improve the learning outcomes of students in Years 5 - 9. It is anticipated that primary and secondary

schools within a cluster will work together to improve student outcomes in Years 5-9 and to meet targets. Believing that transition to Secondary School is a process not an event this initiative also identifies and meets State Government Targets. Students English & Wellbeing, Social Competencies, thinking curriculum and literacy and numeracy as vital components in improving learning

The anticipated key outcomes for the Middle Years Reform Program include:

• Improved literacy and numeracy levels of students in Years 7-9, especially of those students who have previously experienced low levels of literacy achievement
• Increased participation in schooling and attendance at school by students in the middle years.
